Man Arrested in April Armed Bank Robbery in Falmouth, DA Says

Police are looking for a man suspected to have robbed a bank in Falmouth, Massachusetts on Saturday morning.

A Martha's Vineyard man was arrested Tuesday on charges including making a bomb threat, carjacking and kidnapping in the investigation into a bank robbery on Cape Cod last month, officials said.

Petar Petyoshin, a 40-year-old from Edgartown, also faces charges of armed and masked robbery and theft, according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office. His arrest in Edgartown involved a Massachusetts State Police SWAT team and the FBI Boston’s Violent Crimes Task Force.

The robbery took place April 8 at a Rockland Trust Bank in Falmouth, and Falmouth police said at the time that a masked man walked into the bank on Davis Straits at around 9:10 a.m. demanding money from a bank teller while brandishing a handgun and claiming to have a bomb. On April 8, 2023, the Falmouth Police responded to the Falmouth Rockland Trust Bank for a
report of a robbery by a masked man wielding a firearm who also produced what he claimed to
be a bomb. The man zip-tied bank patrons and employees before leaving with several thousand
dollars.

He then stole a black SUV and drove off, state police said. The vehicle was later found but the robber was not.

Petyoshin was arrested on May 23 after an investigation involving the FBI and state and local police. According to authorities, investigators were able to identify Petyoshin and his vehicle through witness descriptions, video surveillance before and after the robbery, and records of local businesses including Stop & Shop, Walmart, and the Steamship Authority.

Petyoshin, an employee of the Oak Bluffs Water District, was arraigned later Tuesday in Falmouth District Court. He was ordered held without bail pending a detention hearing set for next Tuesday.
