1 dead, another injured in apartment building fire in NH

The two people were taken to the hospital for medical treatment, fire officials said, adding that one was in serious condition, while the other was in critical condition

A man died after a fire in Manchester, New Hampshire, Thursday night, and a woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 

A man is dead, and a woman is injured after an apartment building caught fire in Manchester, New Hampshire, late Thursday night.

Crews responded to a fire involving several rear porches just after 10:30 p.m. on Village Circle Way, the Manchester Fire Department said.

While firefighters worked on knocking down the fire and evacuating residents, a man was found and removed from the building, authorities said.

The man was sent to the hospital, where he later died, fire officials said. He was identified Friday as William Halloran, 55, and his cause of his death was found to be accidental smoke inhalation.

A woman was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
