As for the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Esplanade, conductor Keith Lockhart noted that there has only been one rainout in the 28 years he's led the show.

"If it's raining lightly and there isn't a lot of wind, we can perform in almost anything. If it gets more severe than that, then we have to make other plans" said Lockhart.

The other plans might include tape-recording a performance on Monday and airing it on Tuesday but not a postponement.

Organizers say any cancellation decisions will be made closer to showtime on Tuesday.

"We can fit everyone in the shell but not far in enough to avoid our string players from getting wet and those string instruments are valuable," explained Dennis Alves, an event organizer.

Matthew Shea, who is the head pyrotechnician for the fireworks show, is also keeping an eye on the sky.

"Fireworks are designed to go in the rain it would really be high winds for it to be an issue," he said.

Over at Boston Harborfest, there were some shows rained out Sunday, but because the event is stretched over multiple days they've been able to shift things around.

"people come out, they're in their hotel rooms (thinking) 'I spent all this money coming to Boston what am I going to do?' We will promise them a good event," said George Comeau of Boston Harborfest.
