The MBTA announced that service for the Red Line was restored Thursday morning after a late-night fire on the tracks prompted a partial closure.
On Wednesday, fire officials confirmed an electrical fire caused issues on the Red Line after the blaze was reported at about 11 p.m. at Andrews Square Station. Smoke was observed from the line and crews extinguished the fire with dry chemicals.
As a result, service between Fields Corner and Broadway stations was suspended until just before 6 a.m. Residual delays are to be expected, according to the MBTA.
MBTA officials confirmed five cables were damaged in a manhole near Andrew Station.
"The MBTA apologizes for this temporary disruption in service," officials said.
No injuries were reported.
