"Just think of your kids playing in the road or your family members might be in the road or in the car, pay attention to what you're doing when you're driving,” says 11th grader Francesco Martinez, who attended the Newington High School with one of the victims.

It's a situation shaking the community and students who went to school with the 12th grader call it devastating.

"Just find ways to remember her and support her family and sending their prayers and love,” said Martinez.

The school district said crisis support will be available on Monday to support staff and students who are impacted by the tragedy.

Police identified the fourth person who was killed in the crash as 56-year-old Maritza Smith, of New Britain, and a fifth person involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.

Newington's Mayor, Town Council, and legislators shared their condolences online, too.

"It really feels like something that could just happen to anyone at any day, in any community. But it happened here in Newington,” said Rep. Gary Turco (D-27).

Turco says officials and first responders are doing everything they can to help the people impacted the most, and is encouraging the community to support one another.

"This is going to have a real impact on Newington,” he said.

Willard Avenue was closed for several hours between Robbins Avenue and Wilson Avenue. The area has since reopened.

The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad is continuing to investigate the crash. If you have information, you're urged to call Officer Lambros at (860) 594-6229.
