Five people were shot and three people arrested in an overnight shooting in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, police said.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on River Street near the Milton line, according to Boston police. Two guns were recovered.

All five of the people who were shot are expected to survive. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting.

The three arrests were on charges of unlawful possession of a gun, police said, identifying them as 29-year-old Brockton resident Hakeem Ramey and Boston residents Nashaly Seguinot, 25 and Samuel Roman, 24. It wasn't immediately clear if they had attorneys who could speak to their arrests, and they were due to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
One of the arrests was made after officers saw someone discard a gun in the area of the shooting; two others were arrested when officers stopped a vehicle leaving the scene to see if anyone inside was hurt, police said, and noticed a gun inside.

Officers were called to multiple locations, police said.
Boxes of fireworks could be seen on the street where police had blocked off access.
Asked about the shooting, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu called it "unacceptable" that a night of celebration would be marred by violence, and noted the city was working to engage young residents to give them places to be themselves and to earn money.
"Every time we see shots fired and we get the news that it ended up being non-life-threatening, it's a huge sigh of relief, but we also know how close it was," Wu said.
