Boston police said the stabbings happened at the intersection of Stuart and Tremont — one of the busier parts of the city at night — which is concerning to those who frequent the area.

Multiple people were stabbed early Sunday in downtown Boston, and one man has been taken into custody in connection to the incident, police announced.

According to Boston police, officers responded to the area of Stuart and Tremont streets around 2:10 a.m. for a reported stabbing and arrested 39-year-old Daryl Diamond on site.

Police allege Diamond stabbed four men, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two of the victims were found at the scene, police said. A third took himself to a local hospital, and a fourth man arrived at the hospital several hours after the incident.

All four are expected to survive, police added.

The stabbings happened in one of the busier parts of the city at night, known for its entertainment and hospitality, which is concerning to those who frequent the area and those who are in town visiting.

"It's very concerning," said Ricarl Noucine, a former Boston resident.

"This is so sad because this is a place where you have a lot of hotels in the street, so yeah, a lot of tourists from everywhere," said Sarah Arnould, who is visiting from Paris. "I think it's better to walk with someone, especially at night for a woman."

"I actually partied out here the other night," said Joshua Hofer, who left New York to study in Boston. "I come from Rochester, there's a real high crime rate there. Kind of came here to get away from that stuff, and that's a little unsettling, I would say."

While the alleged suspect is in custody, concern remains that multiple people were stabbed at a corner like this.

"I would really be concerned," Noucine said. "And if I come out of anywhere, I want to go straight home."

Diamond, of Dorchester, is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (knife). It was not immediately clear if Diamond had obtained an attorney.

Authorities did not say what led up to the stabbing, or if the suspect and victims are known to each other. An investigation is ongoing.
