According to Young, gunfire was exchanged between the person and six members of the SWAT team. The person was killed in the exchange. No others were injured.

On Thursday, Young identified the man as 40-year-old Jeffrey Ely.

An autopsy was performed and determined Ely's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, upper and lower extremities and torso, Young said. The manner of his death was ruled a homicide.

In Young's press release, she specified that "as used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another."

NBC10 Boston and NECN have not independently confirmed the deputy attorney general's account of the incident.

Young said no further information will be released until after the involved troopers' formal interviews are completed.
