Woman Dead, 4 Seriously Injured in Lawrence Crash Caught on Shocking Video

A 24-year-old woman died and four people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a car crash in Lawrence, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning.

Surveillance video captured by two cameras of the crash is staggering, showing one car smashing headlong into another.

"It was so bad. I've never seen a car sliced in half," witness Luis Rios said.

Staggering security footage caught a car flying into a convenience store in Lawrence in a crash that left one person dead and four hurt.

The crash, involving a 2011 Honda Civic and a 2006 Acura, occurred at the intersection of Winthrop Avenue and South Union Street around 12:23 a.m., according to the Lawrence Police Department.

Four people were taken to Lawrence General Hospital. Gabriela Hernandez, 24, of Lawrence, a passenger in the Honda, was pronounced dead on scene, the Essex District Attorney's Office said. The driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old Lawrence woman, was taken by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Three people, a 31-year-old Lawrence man, a 29-year-old Lawrence man and a 29-year-old Methuen man, were in the Acura. They were taken to Lawrence General Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Giovanni Gonzalez saw it happen: "The black car was stopped right there at the corner and the Honda was going 100 mph and smashed into it."

Andy Escobar said her heard what sounded like an explosion, “and then I see this poor young lady on the floor. I never seen anything like it in my life.”

Amanda Gonzalez said she was on the scene afterward, helping one of the people hurt in the wreck.

"She wasn't breathing. I said, 'Breathe for me darling, breathe for me darling,'" Gonzalez said. "I extended her neck up. I got her to breathe. I was stroking her face, touching her face, telling her, 'I'm gonna find your momma. Stay with us. Stay with us.'"

Rios said he was trying to help the people in the other car, who were unconscious.

"We couldn't get into the vehicle. The doors was locked so we tried everything to break the windows to get in and try to help the rest of the gentlemen in the car," he said.

No charges have been filed at this time, the district attorney's office said, but the accident remains under investigation.
