Passenger Dies in Crash Off Route 101 in NH, Car Hit Trees

New Hampshire state police say it appears speed was a factor in a one-car crash in Candia that resulted in a passenger's death.

Police said they responded at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday to the crash on Route 101. They said the car was heading east when it lost control and veered off the road and down an embankment before it crashed into some trees.

A 21-year-old passenger, Ashley Shunk, of Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 27-year-old Christopher Wadleigh, of Hampton, suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Route 101 eastbound from Exit 2 up to Exit 3 was closed for about four hours.

Police are still investigating.
