Elderly Woman Hit and Killed by Car in Westwood

Two nurses stopped to give the woman first aid before an ambulance arrived to rush her to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, but she was pronounced dead there at about 10:30 a.m.

A woman died after being hit by a car in Westwood, Massachusetts, Thursday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred on University Avenue near the Interstate 95 southbound ramp, Westwood police said. The scene remained closed off as of 11 a.m.

The car hit the woman on University Avenue near the ramp to Interstate 95 south about 9:50 a.m., according to police and the Norfolk District Attorney's Office. She's been identified as 82-year-old Alice Wedge, of Canton.

Two nurses stopped to give the woman first aid before an ambulance arrived to rush her to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, but she was pronounced dead there at about 10:30 a.m.

The driver remained on scene and was not facing any charges as of Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors said that investigators believe the woman was crossing the street when she was hit, but the investigation was continuing.
