A man was killed, apparently stabbed in the neck, at a home in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on Thursday morning, and his son, who was initially detained as a person of interest in the case, has been arrested on a murder charge, authorities said.

Anthony Paluzzi, 73, was reported "unresponsive and bleeding from a laceration to the neck area" in a 911 call from his wife about 6:26 a.m., according to District Attorney Tim Cruz. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paluzzi's cause of death was being investigated, but Cruz said it appeared preliminarily that he died of a stab to the neck, with other injuries possible causes as well. The scene was bloody, and a kitchen knife was found nearby.

Police announced they were seeking Paluzzi's son, 26-year-old Matthew Paluzzi, as they investigated, Cruz said. The police announcement noted that he could be armed and urged the public not to approach him and instead call 911.

Matthew Paluzzi was found by police in nearby Hanover, at the intersection of Columbia Road and Rockland Street, Cruz said. He was detained — the moment was filmed by a Massachusetts State Police aircraft — and brought back to Plymouth, initially only being treated as a person of interest while a search warrant was being executed.

In this image taken from a state police aircraft, Matthew Paluzzi is detained at gunpoint on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, by police in Hanover assisting with the investigation into the killing of his father in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

But Thursday afternoon, Cruz' office shared that Matthew Paluzzi had been arrested and was due to face a murder charge in Plymouth District Court Friday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak to the charge.

"This does not appear to be a random act of violence, there does not appear to be a threat to the community at large," Cruz said.

He also noted that the younger Paluzzi was known to police, but wouldn't discuss his record while the man was only a person of interest in his father's death.

Neighbors of the Paluzzis, who lived on Cedar Road, were stunned by what happened, though some said there have been issues between father and son in the past.

"It's just really sad. Heartbreaking," one said.
