A police response to a domestic incident taking place inside an SUV driving on Interstate 95 in Massachusetts on Thursday morning caused some traffic delays.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said shortly after 9 a.m. that the police activity was centered around Exit 7 on I-95 north. The exit ramp was closed for over 30 minutes but has since reopened.

Aerial footage showed multiple state troopers near a vehicle in the breakdown lane and several state police cruisers parked near the exit ramp.

A Massachusetts State Police spokesman said they received a call shortly before 8:30 a.m. from a motorist who said they saw a man hitting a woman in the face inside a brown Honda CRV with a Rhode Island license plate on I-95 north near Exit 7 in North Attleborough.

The responding trooper located a man, later identified as Brian Cabrera-Castillo, 21, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, with a woman, standing in the grass next to the Exit 7 ramp, state police said. Cabrera-Castillo refused to put down a black backpack he was holding, and then ran across the ramp into the woods.

Two North Attleborough police officers responded as backup and they and the trooper entered the woods and located Cabrera-Castillo, who again refused to drop the bag and said repeatedly that he had a gun.

The trooper and an Attleborough officer drew their guns and continued to order him to drop the bag, which he eventually did.

A search of the bag and the woods turned up no sign of a gun, and police said they don't believe Cabrera-Castillo ever had one.

Cabrera-Castillo was taken into custody and charged with assault and battery on a family or household member, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. He was booked at the state police Foxboro Barracks and held pending his expected arraignment on Thursday in Attleborough District Court.

No further details were released.
