17-year-old dead in Lynn shooting

Authorities say a car parked in the area was shot multiple times.

A 17-year-old has died after a shooting in Lynn, Massachusetts on Saturday night.

Lynn Police responded to the scene on Federal Street, near Market Basket at around 9:09 p.m.

Authorities say they found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound inside a crashed car.

He was transported to Salem Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“The Lynn Police Department, our partners from the Massachusetts State Police and the Office of District Attorney Paul Tucker, are committed to pursuing every lead in this investigation and we will not stop until those responsible for this outrageous act of gun violence are held accountable," said Lynn Police Chief Chris Reddy in a media statement.

Police say this was not a random act

“This is another example of the devastating impact of gun violence on the lives of our young people,” Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said. “Our hearts are with the family of the victim. We will work diligently to achieve justice in this case on their behalf.”

The investigation is ongoing.
