Pedestrian seriously hurt in South Boston hit-and-run near I-93

A man was seriously hurt early Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle on Columbia Road in South Boston, and the driver involved left the scene of the crash, according to Massachusetts state troopers.

State police said that it responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit just before 2:30 a.m. on Thursday on Columbia Road at the Exit 14 ramp from Interstate 93 north.

The man was seriously hurt, troopers said, and he was rushed to Boston Medical Center. He's expected to survive his serious injuries; police were working to identify him.

The man was hit by a red car, possibly a Honda Accord with two tail pipes, as he crossed Columbia Road, police said. The crash sent the man flying through the air, and the car sped off.

A white SUV that was next to the red car also left the scene, according to police, who asked anyone with information about what happened to call detectives at 617-727-8817.
