MBTA Transit Police Officer Seriously Injured in Dedham Crash

Transit police say their officer was escorting a funeral when a vehicle suddenly turned and hit the motorcycle. The injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a "serious crash" involving an MBTA Transit Police motorcycle in Dedham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday afternoon.

Dedham police said in a tweet shortly after 12:30 p.m. that they were at the scene of a crash at 308 Bridge St.

They provided an update around 2 p.m., saying that Bridge Street would likely remain closed for a couple more hours.

A spokesperson for Transit Police said one of its motorcycle officers was performing an escort for a funeral when a vehicle suddenly turned and struck the motorcycle. The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Aerial footage from the crash scene showed extensive damage to a fence surrounding a local yard, with debris strewn across the roadway.

Motorists are being urged to seek alternate routes until the crash scene is cleared.

The accident remains under investigation. No further details were immediately released.
