The officers involved in the crash are okay, the Rutland Police Department said. It’s unclear if anyone else was injured.
A 63-year-old man has been pronounced dead after a crash in Rutland, Mass. involving three vehicles, including two police cruisers.
The crash, which occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, involved two police officers and a police dog from two Massachusetts towns, and left debris strewn across a road.
Kevin St. Peters, of Worcester, was pronounced dead at the scene. His Ford Fusion crossed the double center line into oncoming traffic, hit one of the police cruisers and careened into the woods, according to police. That happened around 6:30 p.m.
The two involved officers suffered from non-life threatening injuries and will be OK. Cooney, the K-9, wasn't injured, the Rutland Police Department said.
Aerial footage from the NBC10 Boston Sky Ranger showed the aftermath of the major crash on Route 122.
A police cruiser from Rutland was left mangled by the impact. A second police vehicle from neighboring Paxton was also seen damaged.
Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office are investigating the crash.
