The sudden downpour over Walpole caught residents like Centamore by surprise.

The intensity of the rain and wind was recorded on cellphone video by an eyewitness, including the moment a tree limb snapped and fell over powerlines, causing them to spark.

“Like a bang, a huge bang,” said Centamore, who was home with her children when the storm rolled through around 3:30 p.m.

“Looking out the window we have a trampoline and a big pool and it just flew over the pool. It was crazy. It looked like a tornado; it was spinning,” she added. “It just happened so fast and it was over. It was weird.”

The storm left debris and hundreds without electricity on what was a hot day across the region. Kawon Kpolar couldn’t do much else but wait

“Hopefully we get power on soon because it’s a hot day. [There’s] kids in the house, [the] dog is in there, so it’s not going to be very comfortable,” said Kpolar.

Meanwhile, police continued directing traffic away from Route 27, while Eversource crews worked into the evening, cutting down tree branches and repairing electricity poles to restore power to the neighborhood.
