July Fourth Shooting in Randolph Leaves Man Dead, Another Badly Injured

The man killed in the shooting outside Mojitos Country Club in Randolph on July Fourth has been identified by the DA as Ivanildo Cabral, a 29-year-old from Worcester

A man was killed and another badly injured in a shooting on the Fourth of July outside of an entertainment venue in Randolph, Massachusetts.

Police blocked off a parking lot near the Mojitos Country Club on Mazzeo Drive as they investigated the shooting, which occurred around 8 p.m. Monday. Authorities said the shooting took place in the parking area opposite the front door of the club.

It is believed that the two victims exited Mojitos at roughly the same time as other men and exchanged words with them. Multiple shots were fired following that dispute, according to Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey's office.

The two victims were rushed to a Boston hospital with critical injuries, where one man was later pronounced dead. The other person is now in stable condition but remains hospitalized, the DA's office said. His name has not been released.

The man who died was identified Tuesday morning as Ivanildo Cabral, a 29-year-old from Worcester.

Cabral’s mother spoke with NBC10 Boston later Tuesday and said she wasn’t prepared to lose her son.

“He wasn’t affiliated with gangs, he went to work, he came home, he went to the gym every single day," she said. "He was amateur boxer, and he just got finished getting his CDL license.”

The Norfolk District Attorney's Office has not provided any details on possible suspects but said they would release more information as the case progresses.

Both police and prosecutors said Monday they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community.

State and local police detectives were conducting interviews Monday night with witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting, the district attorney said. People could be seen standing around the area with towels and balloons, as many came out to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

The immediate area surrounding the crime scene was closed to traffic following the shooting and police had warned residents there would be a significant police presence while the investigation continued.

Randolph police said there is no active threat to the community following the shooting in the area of the Mojitos Country Club.

Randolph police were assisted on scene by Massachusetts State Police, as well as personnel from Braintree, Milton, Stoughton, Holbrook, Weymouth and Avon.

Mojitos Country Club is located right off the highway, across from the Showcase Cinemas in Randolph, and features multiple spaces for guests, including an outdoor pool.
