2 bodies found in woods near Salem, Mass., Walmart, prosecutors say

4/24/25 UPDATE: Officials said Thursday morning that a man has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

Two bodies were found in the woods near a Walmart in Salem, Massachusetts, on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

What led to the deaths of the two males, or if they involved foul play, was under investigation as of Wednesday evening, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.

One body was discovered by a man walking his dog near the Walmart on Highland Avenue about 2:23 p.m., prosecutors said. When police arrived, they found a second body.

Anyone with information about the bodies was asked to call Massachusetts State Police at 978-745-8909 or Salem police at 978-744-1212, prosecutors said.

There was no indication the bodies involved the Walmart — a large police presence was seen in a taped-off area of the woods about 100 feet from one corner of the store.
