A nor'easter is expected to bring significant snow to much of New England Tuesday, and many schools across the region will be closed.

The classic nor'easter is expected to drop 8-12 inches of snow Tuesday morning and afternoon in central and southern New England.

The storm tracked southward Monday afternoon, putting Boston and Framingham on track to see between 5 to 8 inches. Hartford and Providence are looking at between 8 to 12.

Many districts have already made the call to cancel classes by Monday evening, though there were exceptions. In Newton, where February vacation is already canceled to make up class days lost during a teachers strike, district officials said they are waiting until the "wee hours" of the morning to make a final call on whether to cancel.

Northern New England misses out on this particular storm.
