State police said their preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford F-250 pickup driven by a 44-year-old Fall River man struck an adult woman, who was declared dead at the scene.

Officials have since identified the woman as 37-year-old Christin Oliveira, of Lakeville.

Route 24 north was temporarily shut down as a result of the crash. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said all northbound traffic was detoured off the Exit 8 off-ramp and rerouted back onto Route 24 via the Exit 8 on-ramp.

All lanes were reopened by 8:45 a.m.

State police said the cause of the crash and the reason why the pedestrian was on the highway remain under investigation.
