A pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing vehicle after exiting their burning car on Route 3 in Billerica, Massachusetts, overnight.
State police said they responded to a report of a car fire with possible entrapment on Route 3 north prior to Treble Cove Road shortly after midnight Monday morning.

When they arrived, troopers determined that no one was trapped in the car, but a pedestrian had been struck and seriously injured. Billerica fire and EMS responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and treat the injured person, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police said their preliminary investigation indicates that a Honda Accord crashed and caught fire. The driver exited the vehicle and was hit by a Mercedes in the left travel lane. They did not say if the Mercedes remained at the scene.

Route 3 was closed until just before 4 a.m. while the scene was investigated and cleared.
The identity of the person who was killed is being withheld until family members can be notified.
