According to police, lifesaving efforts were performed on everyone at the scene, and all five people were taken to multiple area hospitals.

Three of the five passengers had life-threatening injuries, police said, and the highway was shut down for about 90 minutes on Sunday to accommodate a medical helicopter that flew one of the injured passengers -- an infant -- to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Police said in an update Tuesday that all five people, including the infant, are now in stable condition. Additional updates are not expected to be released.

One of the travel lanes remained closed Sunday for another three hours as police conducted a roadside investigation. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but police said all aspects remain under investigation.
