The storm cleanup continues Friday morning in Middlesex County, where gusty winds and rain knocked powerlines and brought down trees.

The Department of Public Works made rounds across Chelmsford, Massachusetts, to get rid of tree limbs that snapped after Thursday afternoon's storm.

"We heard a very loud crack, and about two seconds later a second crack," said Cindy Sullivan.

Sullivan got quite a scare after winds suddenly picked up and rain began pouring down, knocking over one of the taller trees next to her home.

"It landed on their – I think that's an oak, and that is holding the pine tree up," she said. "Very close call. We're all very fortunate."

Those not as fortunate were the Philoon family, who live about half-a-mile away and whose house was partly crushed by a downed tree in their back yard.

The top end of the tree pierced through the roof into the kitchen, smashing windows and spreading debris all over the house.

Trees were knocked down across Massachusetts on a stormy Thursday evening.

Aiden Philoon said he was home with his brother taking a nap when he heard a loud crack and felt the ground shake.

It was the first time in 20 years his mom, Michelle, had left them home alone while taking a vacation on Cape Cod. She returned to find her home in worse shape than she imagined.

"If we hadn't been on vacation, I do home daycare. I would have had a house full of kids. So, that's a blessing in disguise, I guess," she said.

In another Chelmsford neighborhood, the Balboni family has their work cut out for them after a tree sliced through a bedroom ceiling.

Crystal Balboni got the frightening call from her husband.

"Happy everybody's OK. It's really scary to get the call when you're driving in a bad storm. I heard the fear in his voice," she explained.

As DPW crews continue to help with cleanup, power crews are also going around working to restore electricity to residents there. It will take a bit longer though for trees to be removed.
