Police said the shooting does not appear to be random. The victim was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries.

Police said a passerby who is an emergency professional applied a tourniquet to the injured man's leg. A trail of blood was visible on the road at the crime scene.

Maynard Street at Beechwood Circle remains closed due to the ongoing investigation.

"It's a very quiet neighborhood," resident Chelsea Duval said. "Not a lot happens, so even to see a couple police cars around is a little scary."
