A teenage girl was shot in the face and seriously wounded at an apartment complex in Easton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, police said.
The people believed to have been involved in the shooting on Robert Drive at about 2:30 p.m. fled, according to Easton police. The girl, a resident of the Avalon Easton complex who had life-threatening injuries, was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center, then flown to a Boston hospital.

There was not believed to be a threat to the community at large; the incident was not believed to have been random and the victim and her attacker or attackers, who fled in a vehicle, are believed to have known each other, Easton Police Chief Keith Boone said at a news conference.
"It was a horrific scene for the officers involved," Boone said.

He confirmed that a police investigation on Donegal Way was related to the Easton shooting. Mansfield police have said that there was no danger to the public.
The location in Easton is about five minutes away.
No arrests had been made as of Boone's news conference; he didn't have an update on the girl's condition.
The Easton Fire Department had said previously that they had transported an adult female to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter with a gunshot wound.
Aerial video showed yellow crime scene tape surrounding the apartment complex.
A man who lives in the apartment complex said, "nothing really ever happened like this before," where something's made him feel unsafe.
Massachusetts State Police had confirmed they were investigating the incident on Robert Drive near the Avalon Complex after Easton police requested the help of detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office's.
