Shuttle buses were replacing service between Harvard and Broadway due to a disabled piece of maintenance equipment at Park Street, the MBTA said just after 5 a.m. Friday.
As the MBTA announced that Orange Line service would return to normal Friday morning — following an icing issue late Thursday night — another issue cropped up, this one on a long stretch of the transit system's Red Line.
Shuttle buses were replacing service between Harvard and Broadway due to a disabled piece of maintenance equipment at Park Street, the MBTA said just after 5 a.m. Friday. The transit agency warned passengers to expect delays as shuttles were dispatched.

By just after 8 a.m., the MBTA said that shuttle buses were being phased out and the service was resuming with delays. Just after 9:30 a.m., the transit agency said that regularly-scheduled service had resumed.

The MBTA said that around 4 a.m., a piece of track work equipment derailed on the southbound track. Crews were working to re-rail, and then track maintenance personnel was to make repairs, according to the T.
By around 7:20 a.m., T officials said that the equipment was successfully re-railed and off the main line, and that repairs had been made. The MTBA was preparing to run a test train through the area by that hour.
The cause of the derailment was under investigation Friday morning.
In another incident, shuttle buses replaced Orange Line service Thursday night between North Station and Oak Grove due to ice over the third rail, the MBTA said around 10:30 p.m. Shuttles were being dispatched at that time to replace service.
Crews were said to be responding to remove the ice Thursday night.
As of Friday morning, the MBTA said that regular service was resuming on the Orange Line.
