A quick-moving snow system moves southeast through New England overnight. The heaviest snow will fall overnight and will taper off around the mid-morning drive into work.
Temperatures will be in the teens and 20s so this means our snow will have a fluffy consistency and higher snow ratios (around 15:1). We have some drier air locked in near the ground across most of New England, so the snow will take a few hours to make it to the ground without evaporating, let alone accumulate.
Snow rates will be around half an inch per hour between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., though isolated areas may see 1 inch/hour rates.
The heaviest swath of snow may be across western, central, eastern Massachusetts, southern Vermont, and New Hampshire, with the extreme northeast corner of Maine and southwest corner of Connecticut not getting much, if any, snow. The best area of lift looks to be north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, and into southern Vermont and New Hampshire around the Merrimack Valley and Route 2 corridor in Massachusetts.
We're expecting a widespread 3-6 inches of snow through Thursday morning, which can be cleared away from the driveway or on the car using a broom. The snow tapers off during the morning drive, but a few flurries linger throughout the morning in eastern Massachusetts. Snow lingers into the late morning along the coast and lingers across Cape Cod in the early afternoon. We'll have partly cloudy skies by afternoon and highs in the low-30s.

In-depth news coverage of the Greater Boston Area.
We get a brief break from the winter weather with mostly sunny skies for Friday and highs in the mid-30s. This weekend we’re watching a couple of waves of low pressure passing to our south. One low will affect us for Saturday afternoon through Sunday, with rain south and a mix to snow farther north.
The second low passes south, but close enough that the northern edge brushes the southeastern part of the region. We'll be possibly dealing with snow accumulation for Monday morning with temperatures in the 20s as the system passes by as a coastal low.
Highs remain in the upper 20s and low 30s for the rest of the 10-day forecast. A snow chance returns for Wednesday next week.
