Police confirmed Monday that the teenagers were found just after getting on an MBTA bus, and said officers found a folding knife with them.

A pair of teenagers were arrested over a stabbing next to Boston Common Sunday night, police said.

The 17- and 13-year-old boys, both of Boston, were taken into custody by officers on an MBTA bus several blocks down Tremont Street, the Boston Police Department said Monday.

The department was called to the stabbing near the intersection of Tremont and Winter streets about 7:43 p.m., officials said. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Officers spoke to the victim, who told them the suspect(s) ran away towards Temple Place. While still on scene, Boston police dispatchers reported that a group of teenagers were seen running from the scene and one of them had a knife.

Fifteen minutes later, on Tremont Street near West Street, several police officers were seen near an MBTA bus.

It was a wild hour at the Boston Common on Sunday night with police responding to two scenes. Police would not say if the two are connected.

NBC10 cameras were rolling around 8 p.m. when the two suspects were taken off the Silver Line bus and into police custody. Police confirmed Monday that the teenagers were found just after getting on an MBTA bus near Tremont and Avery streets, and said officers found a folding knife with them.

The children face charges of assault and battery and delinquency in Boston Juvenile Court. Police haven't shared their names.

All passengers on the bus were taken off and then put on another bus while officers went on board and looked for evidence. The road was partially closed down during the investigation, and police would not initially say if the two people who were arrested at the second scene were connected to the stabbing at the first scene.

Police have not said what led up to the stabbing. An investigation is ongoing.
