5-vehicle crash leaves 1 dead on I-93 in Medford, police say

Police didn't say if the driver of the car believed to have caused the crash was set to face charges

A driver died in a pileup crash on Interstate 93 in Medford, Massachusetts, on Thursday night, police said.

The five-vehicle crash took place about 6:20 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway before exit 25, according to the Massachusetts State Police. A car is believed to have hit four other vehicles, sending a Ford F-350 off the road — it landed upside down on the wood line.

Its driver died at the scene, police said Friday. He was identified as 25-year-old Fredis Seravia-Corvera, of Revere.

One other person in one of the vehicles was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office said Friday that a black Toyota Camry "may have been operating erratically" before the crash, which also involved a grey Subaru Forester, a blue Ford Explorer, a brown Honda Odyssey and a grey Ford F-350 dump truck that was hauling a trailer.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information about any of the vehicles involved is asked to call Massachusetts State Police at 781-396-0100.

I-93 north remained closed at Roosevelt Circle for hours.

Northbound traffic was being detoured off the highway at exit 24, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, which had said the highway was closed in Stoneham.
