Police say they have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl in Rhode Island on Thursday.
Officers were called to an address on Earle Street in Central Falls at 8:50 a.m. Thursday for a report of an unconscious person, according police. There they found the teen, who was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, WJAR said police confirmed the girl had died. She was a freshman at Central Falls High School. Her name has not been relased.
Central Falls School District Superintendent Stephanie Downey Toledo said in a message to the school community Friday that she was "heartbroken" to inform them of the student's death. She said the district has arranged for counselors to assist the school community in processing the tragedy.

"Our job now is to support students, staff and members of the community who are grieving," she said. "We will get through this as a community."
Central Falls police said Friday afternoon that they have arrested 18-year-old Moises Maldonado, of Central Falls, in connection with the shooting. He was arraigned in Providence District Court on manslaughter and firearms charges.
