A Massachusetts man without a license allegedly got behind the wheel drunk early Friday morning and crashed his truck into a gas station store in Oxford, injuring the store clerk inside, officials said.
Derikk McGovern, 28, of Webster, is facing multiple charges in connection to the crash at the Mobil Fuel Station, including OUI (alcohol). Prosecutors said in court Friday that McGovern was driving with a blood alcohol limit nearly three times the legal limit.
Oxford police say McGovern crashed his Chevy pickup truck into the XtraMart convenience store at 93 Southbridge Road around 12:45 a.m. and ended up in the middle of a store aisle.
The impact sent items flying off the shelves and left shards of glass all over the floor. Crews spent the afternoon boarding up the store and picking up the mess inside.
“The defendant had driven his pickup truck completely through the front plate glass window of the store. The store clerk, who was behind the counter at the time, was struck and thrown to the ground,” prosecutors said in Dudley District Court.
The clerk only suffered minor injuries and managed to walk out of the store, fire officials said.
Crews spent the day boarding up the store, cleaning up debris from the impact, and removing the truck.

McGovern's bail was set at $1,000.
Prosecutors say Friday morning's crash wasn't McGovern's first run-in with police. They also asked for bail on unrelated cases stemming from a two-year-old restraining order that they say McGovern ignored multiple times.
“It appears as though he contacted the complaining witness through text messages as well as phone calls approximately seven times,” prosecutors said in court.
