The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, thanks in large part to those who rushed to his aid. One of the Good Samaritans who helped the driver get out of his car was being treated for burn-related injuries, the fire department said, adding that both are expected to be OK.

NBC10 Boston spoke with a woman who was among those to help rescue the driver, and she says her mom gave her a water hose to start spraying the car. After her brother and another man broke the car's window, she held the door so they could get the driver out.

“We went downstairs to help because the car was just on fire," the woman, who did not want to be identified, told NBC10 Boston. "We thought the car was going to explode."

Once the driver was out on the ground away from his burning car, the woman, who says she is CPR certified, says she made sure he was alive, checking his breathing and pulse.

The car was mangled in the crash, and one with a fortunate outcome thanks to a group of people who made a split-second decision to act.

“What I was thinking about? Nothing. All my attention was, I want to help this person," the woman who helped said of her mindset. "Even if I’m not that strong. I put all my energy and power to help, do my best.”

There was no immediate word Saturday on what caused the crash.
