Woman seriously injured in shooting in Maine, son charged with attempted murder

Maine State Police said they are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday morning in Belgrade, leaving a woman seriously injured.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, a 911 call was received reporting a shooting at a residence on Point Road in Belgrade. State police troopers responded along with Belgrade Rescue and Delta Ambulance.

A woman was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries, according to state police.

She was identified as 58-year-old Christina Bell, and she is expected to survive.

An adult male, identified by police as 26-year-old Samuel Bell -- Christina's son -- left the residence in his vehicle and was taken into custody by state police a short distance away on Guptill Road. He did not live at the residence with his parents.

Samuel Bell was arrested on charges of attempted murder and elevated aggravated assault and taken to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility. No details on his arraignment were released.

Police described the shooting as an "isolated incident" and said there is no danger to the public.
