Authorities arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Benson. He is facing serious charges, including assault to murder.

"I think the time of day was the most shocking thing," said Andy Jimison. "I think people think something like that happens late at night, but it was like 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning. So that was pretty wild."

Jimison owns a pair of businesses next to the building.

"I came to drop off some supplies at the coffee shop and there was already a couple of cop cars," said Jimison. "There was a guy in the doorway holding a rag against his neck, he was clearly bleeding, it was a pretty big laceration."

In court Monday, prosecutors said the victim told police he was heading to work when he got into an altercation with another tenant in the building.

The two had apparently had conflicts before.

This time, he said Benson had a machete and a smaller knife, using the latter to slash him just below his throat.

Police have not said what the two men were arguing about.
