The female victim was pronounced dead on scene Thursday after officers responded around 6:20 p.m. to the Brookside Avenue home for possible gunshots and found two people inside suffering from gunshot wounds.

The woman and man who died are related and lived at the apartment where they were found, Worcester police said. The woman was in her 50s and the man in his 20s.

Asked if there was any information about a suspect, a police spokesman said he had nothing to share, but said there was not believed to be a threat to the public and asked anyone with information about what happened to contact them, including anonymously.

Officers who entered the apartment "found a grisly scene," Sgt. Sean Murtha said. "This is a violent crime. We’d like to ask anyone in the public to bring information if they have it."

Crime scene tape remained up and there were police cruisers still at the scene Friday morning, as detectives continued to investigate what led up to this deadly double shooting.

Neighbors tell NBC10 Boston that they are in shock after what happened.

“It’s terrifying, I mean Worcester lately has a lot of stuff that’s happened in the area, so yeah it’s terrifying,” said neighbor Jose Rivera. "All I saw was a bunch of commotion, ambulances and police cars, they were actually here all night, until this morning as you can see.”

“I was up all night just looking, making sure everything was okay and yeah, too close to home,” Rivera added.

“It’s pretty much safe and I’m actually shocked something like this happened, I wouldn’t expect that at all,” another neighbor Julie Mintah said. "The hallway is taped, and I saw there was like some stuff on the floor and policemen right there."
