Man accused of shooting 2 family members in custody after Worcester standoff

Two of the man's family members, a male and a female, were injured after being shot Friday morning

A man who was barricaded for nearly 13 hours in a Worcester home Friday after allegedly shooting two family members has been arrested.

The two shooting victims, who weren't identified beyond being male and female, were rushed to a hospital from the home on Colby Avenue near Interstate 290, Worcester police said. It wasn't immediately clear how serious their injuries were.

The incident was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. The man, who police initially said was 21 but later said was 24, was taken away by an ambulance after the standoff.

Police say when they confronted the suspect he shot at officers and then barricaded himself inside a home.

The man was not identified, but police said he was not well-known to them.

No officers were hurt when he opened fire on them as they tried to take him into custody.

Earlier, Worcester police urged the public to stay away from Colby Avenue.
