Multiple people were shot outside a courthouse in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Monday, city officials said.
A call about the gunfire at the building on Golden Hill Street came in around noon. A total of four people were shot; their injuries were described as non life-threatening and authorities said they were believed to be targeted.
All the shots were fired from outside the courthouse; they were fired at a sedan that was left bullet-riddled in the parking lot, surrounded by evidence markers. Police said Monday afternoon that someone shot at all four people in the vehicle; three of those people ran into the courthouse for cover.
Police are looking into whether a stolen blue Volkswagen may have been involved in the shooting, according to one law enforcement official briefed on the preliminary investigation. They're also trying to determine whether it was a drive-by shooting or a suspect emerged from the vehicle, fired and then fled.
City officials were quick to point out that the shooting was not a random act of violence and there was not an active shooter on the loose. Chopper 4 showed a sprawling law enforcement response at the scene, with evidence markers scattered all over the pavement.
Police say three people are in custody, as law enforcement looking into whether the shooting was possibly connected to the homicide of an 18-year-old on Sunday, Mayor Joe Ganim said.

"We don't tolerate this," Ganim said. "No homicide, no shooting, is something that's going to go unanswered by the Bridgeport Police Department."
