Baylor Scheierman delivered a career-high 20 points (6-7 3-PT) to lead the Celtics over the Nets.

It was far from their prettiest performance of the season, but the Boston Celtics squeaked out a win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday for the second straight game.

Baylor Scheierman was the one to step up for the C's with Jayson Tatum (right knee tendinopathy) and Jaylen Brown (right knee posterior impingement) sidelined. The rookie delivered a career-high 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point range, including a buzzer-beater 3 to end the third quarter. Four of his 3s came in the fourth.

Scheierman's 20 points marked the most by a Celtics rookie since Payton Pritchard in 2021. He added three rebounds, two steals, and an assist in an outstanding all-around performance.

MAR 189:23 PM EDT

Scheierman looking sharp

Score: 78-75 Celtics, 8:40 left in fourth quarter

MAR 189:14 PM EDT

End of third quarter

Score: 71-70 Celtics

Baylor Scheierman put the Celtics up by one heading into the fourth quarter with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer. The rookie leads the C's second unit with eight points and a pair of 3s.

Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White lead Boston with 16 points apiece. White notched 13 of his 16 points in the third quarter.

MAR 189:03 PM EDT

D-White catching fire

Score: 65-62 Celtics, 4:41 left in third quarter

Derrick White has scored 13 of his 16 points in the third to help give the C's their first lead since early in the opening quarter. The Celtics guard has joined James Harden as the only players in NBA history to notch 225+ 3-pointers, 50+ offensive rebounds, 60+ steals, and 60+ blocks.

Boston is 8-13 (61.5 percent) from the field and 4-6 (66.7 percent) from 3 in the frame after an abysmal first-half shooting performance.

MAR 188:57 PM EDT

Porzingis notches 900th block

Score: 57-56 Nets, 6:31 left in third quarter

Kristaps Porzingis is enjoying another stellar night. The Celtics big man has 16 points, seven rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and a steal. His two blocks marked the 900th and 901st of his career.

Derrick White is heating up for Boston after a woeful first half. He has scored seven of his 10 points so far in the frame.

MAR 188:36 PM EDT

Halftime

Score: 49-44 Nets

Despite shooting just 35.9 percent from the floor, the Celtics only trail by five at the half. Kristaps Porzingis was the lone bright spot for Boston with a team-high 14 points (5-8 FG).

It's been a balanced attack for the Nets over the first 24 minutes. Seven Brooklyn players, including all five starters, have at least five points. D'Angelo Russell leads the group with eight.

MAR 188:28 PM EDT

Rough start for C's guards

Score: 46-37 Nets, 3:18 left in second quarter

Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Payton Pritchard are a combined 4-for-18 from the floor (2-11 3-PT). That's a big reason the C's find themselves trailing the lowly Nets by nine points with three minutes to go in the half.

MAR 188:22 PM EDT

C's heating up

Score: 37-35 Nets, 5:26 left in second quarter

The Celtics ripped off a 7-0 run with a pair of Jrue Holiday free throws, a Neemias Queta layup, and a Sam Hauser 3-pointer. They only trail by two despite shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor and 23.8 percent from 3.

MAR 188:15 PM EDT

Celtics ice-cold from 3

Score: 37-28 Nets, 7:30 left in second quarter

Boston is shooting an uncharacteristic 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point range. Brooklyn is 6-for-15 (40 percent) from deep.

MAR 188:06 PM EDT

End of first quarter

Score: 26-21 Nets

The Celtics shot just 36.8 percent from the floor while allowing the Nets to shoot 50 percent (10-20) from the field in the first quarter. They'll look to shore it up on both ends of the floor in the second.

Kristaps Porzingis led the C's with seven points in the first 12 minutes. D'Angelo Russell, Keon Johnson, and Day'Ron Sharpe lead the Nets with five points each.

MAR 187:59 PM EDT

C's struggling to get stops

Score: 22-18 Nets, 2:47 left in first quarter

Brooklyn is shooting 50 percent from the floor, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range with just under three minutes left in the opening frame. Boston isn't far behind (7-15 FG, 3-9 3-PT), but it hasn't found its groove yet offensively with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown sidelined.

MAR 187:52 PM EDT

KP picking up where he left off

Score: 15-12 Nets, 5:14 left in first quarter

Fresh off a 24-point performance vs. the Nets in his return from an eight-game absence, Kristaps Porzingis is off to a fast start in his first game at TD Garden since Feb. 23. He made the Celtics' first three buckets of the game and has seven of their 12 points.

Jrue Holiday added a bucket of his own and Sam Hauser made a 3-pointer, but Boston trails Brooklyn by three after seven minutes. D'Angelo Russell leads the Nets with five points. All five Brooklyn starters have scored.

Will Celtics get a look at healthy rotation before playoffs arrive?

Will Celtics get a look at healthy rotation before playoffs arrive?

Payton Pritchard talks about what Kristaps Porzingis brings for the Celtics after he dropped a game-high 24 points in his return game against the Nets.

The Boston Celtics have rarely been at full strength this season.

Boston’s preferred starting five of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday have played a little more than 300 minutes together over 20 games. Boston’s top six — adding in Al Horford — has been available just 16 times. The Celtics have had their top 10 — adding in Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser, Luke Kornet, and Neemias Queta — available just 12 times over 68 games.

And it doesn’t appear those numbers will grow by very much before the playoffs arrive.

Brown is set to miss Tuesday’s visit from the Brooklyn Nets due to a knee impingement. Boston hasn’t had its preferred starting five available since February 23, a rare day when the team had its entire top nine available and leaned on that playoff core in a triumph over the New York Knicks.
