Clarke, who hailed from Boston, declared for the 2021 NBA Draft in March and was expected to be a first-round selection. During the draft, commissioner Adam Silver took the podium to help make Clarke's lifelong dream come true.

With Clarke's family in attendance, Silver made a special announcement.

"With the next pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the NBA selects Terrence Clarke from the University of Kentucky."

Jaylen Brown and the Celtics paid tribute to Clarke on Twitter. Brown was a friend and a mentor of Clarke's.

Clarke was 19 years old.
