It didn't take long for the New England Patriots to make their first major move of the offseason.

Shortly after Sunday's season finale vs. the Buffalo Bills, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced the team parted ways with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo. Mayo finished his debut season with just four wins -- including a victory over the Bills that cost New England the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With Mayo's departure, we can expect plenty more changes to the coaching staff in the coming weeks. Whoever the Patriots hire as their next head coach will likely bring in their own assistants as the organization looks to start fresh in 2025.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Patriots' interview with Mike Vrabel is set for Thursday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Patriots also interviewed Pep Hamilton for their head coach job Tuesday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Hamilton last served as the Houston Texans' offensive coordinator in 2022 and worked with current Patriots rookie QB Joe Milton III before the 2024 NFL Draft.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Patriots are interviewing Byron Leftwich for their head coach job Tuesday, per The Athletic's Mike Jones. Leftwich last coached with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022 as their offensive coordinator.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Bengals plan to interview Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington for their DC job, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Patriots plan to interview Mike Vrabel this week for their head coach opening, MassLive's Mark Daniels reports.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: The Bears will interview Mike Vrabel on Wednesday, the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed reports.

The Bears, Jets, Saints and Patriots all have interest in Vrabel, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Monday, Jan. 6: The Patriots have requested to interview Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for their head coach job, The MMQB's Albert Breer reports.

Monday, Jan. 6: League sources tell Phil Perry that the Patriots are expected to make a "hard push" for Mike Vrabel.

"Several NFL coaches and executives watching this situation from afar believe that the Patriots would not have moved on from Jerod Mayo without having an understanding that they would be given a real shot at hiring Vrabel," Perry writes.

Monday, Jan. 6: Tom E. Curran reports Mike Vrabel is the Patriots' "No. 1 candidate" and anticipates the personnel department "getting more time" heading into 2025.

Monday, Jan. 6: Former Patriots assistant Brian Daboll has been rumored as a potential offensive coordinator candidate in New England, but New York Giants owner John Mara announced Monday that Daboll will remain the team's head coach in 2025.

Sunday, Jan. 5: Our Phil Perry reports that no changes to the front office have been made to this point, although that doesn't necessarily mean Eliot Wolf's role as de facto general manager is guaranteed.

Sunday, Jan. 5: Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports that Mike Vrabel has been interested in the Patriots' vacancy in recent weeks and would have "quality assistants" ready to join him in New England.

Sunday, Jan 5: Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reports Alex Van Pelt is out as Patriots offensive coordinator, though the team has not officially announced the move.

Sunday, Jan. 5: Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced in a statement shortly after the team's season finale vs. the Bills that Mayo was relieved of his duties as head coach.
