A vehicle slammed into the back of a truck as they headed west on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer Thursday, causing serious injuries and temporarily closing the highway, police said.

All lanes have reopened after the Massachusetts Turnpike was closed at Interstate 495 after part of the roadway started to crack.

Emergency roadwork was conducted Friday on the Massachusetts Turnpike near Interstate 495.

MassDOT warns that detours and delays on the westbound side of the highway near I-495 in the area could last several hours.
