A man has been charged after state and local police were surrounded while trying to make an arrest in Boston last month, prosecutors said Thursday.

It has been six months since a Massachusetts State Police recruit died from injuries he suffered at the training academy in New Braintree.

The wife and sister of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor released statements saying that Karen Read’s lawyers have maligned Proctor’s character as a distraction from the case.

Trooper Michael Proctor, who has been suspended without pay since July, is facing a trial board after misconduct allegations came to light during the first Karen Read trial last summer.
